Whisk launched a new website design for the Sunraysia Football & Netball League (SFNL) in Late March 2024. The primary challenge following the launch was to drive consistent traffic to the website by providing valuable and engaging content.
Sunraysia Football Netball League is located in Mildura in North West Victoria. The League consists of nine teams, Imperials, Irymple, Merbein, Mildura, Ouyen United, Red Cliffs, Robinvale Euston, South Mildura and Wentworth District.
Main Goals
Establish the Website as a Valuable Content Hub
After launching the website in April 2024, we emphasised to the client the importance of having a site that is not only well-designed but also frequently visited. To achieve this, we collaborated with videographers to feature interviews and match replays directly on the site. Additionally, we provided match previews, news items, and other content of interest to the football and netball community. Although event photography was limited due to an injury, we plan to increase coverage in the 2025 season.
Boost Match Attendance
To create buzz and sustain interest throughout the season, we regularly shared ladders and match results on social media. These posts were timed alongside match previews and upcoming fixtures to keep the community engaged and excited about attending games.
Increase Sponsorship
At the start of the 2024 season, sponsorship interest was low. However, by mid-season, we successfully secured a partnership with Harvey Norman to create a Match Centre. This Match Centre featured fixtures, match data, and replays, making it a valuable resource for both fans and potential sponsors.
Solution
Throughout the 2024 football season, our focus was on delivering valuable content to the league community through the website and social media channels. This strategy successfully drove significant traffic to the website while keeping the community actively engaged. Remarkably, the only paid advertising was a modest $20 Facebook ad to promote the Season Opener.
As a result, the website evolved from a static brochure into a dynamic hub of valuable content, making it an attractive option for both sponsorships and community grants.
Results
Within seven months of the website launch, the site registered 140,000 views, primarily driven by organic traffic (so not paid).
This enhanced online presence and engaging content led to a noticeable increase in match attendance.
The league’s brand image was significantly strengthened, establishing it as a respected and professional organisation within the community.
Additionally, sponsorship was secured from Harvey Norman, with growing interest from other potential sponsors for the 2025 season.
